This is my first review and book read for the Holiday Reading Challenge. Woot, woot!

This is not a book for everyone. I am a lover of all books so this went well with me (Gee, I make it sound like some type of food). It was a cute little winter read that made me giggle and smile. These types of books, the one's that are cheesy and short, are the best for something different. A lot of YA novels usually, in some way or another, feature paranormal, magic, fantasy, something that does not exist in our world. The plots and setting of Clark and Hawthorne books can take place in our world, which I really like as a change.

Icing on the Lake is about a girl, Kirsten, who has moved in with her sister for a month to help out. Then Sean comes along, the ice rink police man, shoveling man and hockey man. Sean also has a brother, Conor, the ice rink police man, shoveling man, bakery man and grocery store man. Who does Kirsten fall for? Hats and mittens off, it's time to ice around this teen romance book.

There really isn't much I can say about this book, considering its size. It took me a couple of hour's to read. It' plot followed the typical outline these types of books generally follow. Here's what I mean:

1) Features a girl who is either away somewhere or doing something (amusement park, hotel, wedding, skating, etc.)
2) Generally features 2 boys (typically ones that the girl is interested in)
3) The girl always (sometimes) falls for the wrong one, or if there is one guy she falls for him but something happens to their relationship
4) The girl and guy (which ever scenario) breaks up
5) They get back together and the end

Confusing? Yeah, if you haven't read these types of books then this outline wouldn't make any sense. I'm hoping though, at least, it does just a little. To explain more generally, these books are about cheesy teenagers trying to figure themselves out. It's cheesy teen love, basically. The writing has teenager written all over it (excuse the pun.) The plot is usually cheesy too. Too much cheese? Well they are cheesy. But I like cheesy as a change. Cheesy is funny and cute. Thus, I will use cheese one more time to sum up the overall feeling of this book, cheesy (but good cheesy.)

If you like to read cheesy teen romance from time to time, then this book is for you. If not, well steer clear 'cause you'll end up hating this. Oh, and before I forget, this is a great Holiday winter read if you're looking for one ^.^

My rating:
4 curly pig tails

Cheesy romance and ice skates,

  4. I actually read another work of Catherine Clark. I forgot what it's called but based on your review, they basically have the same plot line. I didn't really hate it but I can't say I love it either. Maybe pure cheesy-romance is getting old for me. :)

Love the site! I'm a new follower. BTW did you just started blogging this October? If so, would you like to join me on my 2011 Year-End Reflection thingy? I also just started blogging this November and I would love to hear other blogging story. :D
