In my mailbox (#3) X-Mas Edition

So I've decided to upload my "In My Mailbox" today instead of tomorrow. I figure, from now on I will post these memes every Sunday; show you what I've gotten throughout the week. Ah, and before I forget, "In my Mailbox" is a meme hosted by The Story Siren so be sure to check her blog out.

Like I warned you, I have A LOT of books to show you. Please keep in mind all these weren't given to me TODAY.. My mom bought the lot at the same time, gave me half for my Birthday and the other half for Christmas. I decided to wait and just show you the entire lot now instead of before. Enjoy!

Hello my little piggies. I just want to write a quick post wishing you and your families a happy, safe, and fun filled Christmas. I know Santa was good to me this year ;) I hope he was the same with you guys!

I'm going to be supper busy at my house today since my family is hosting Christmas Dinner this year. I also have secrete Santa with my cousins that I am so excited for!

Review: Anna and the French Kiss

So basically this review will rave about everything you've already heard about this book. This is a warning!

What can I say? This was such a cute and romantic read. I needed a break from the paranormal/supernatural genre for a little. This was the perfect contemporary read. Gah, this was swoon worthy. Yeah, I know, boys and men are usually swoon worthy, but I think books can be added to this list of swoon-worthy-things.

Where do we begin? Ah, we begin in Paris. The city of love. The city of great food and cheese. The city when I think of it I think of Madeline. Who wouldn't want to live in Paris? Anna, of course! She much rather be back home in Atlanta, with her friends, and Toph... that's just fantasy, her award winning writer of a father won't let Anna return. So she is stuck in Paris. Paa-lease, if I were stuck in Paris I'd visit the Notre Dame and pretend the Hunchback actually lived there. I really like the hunchback. People with hunchbacks are good looking too, you know.

As it turns out, living in Paris isn't all that bad. She meets a group of friends, and totally falls in love with St. Clair. Ettien St. Clair. You know what I love about St. Clair? He's short. Yeah, how witty was the author on that one? Most boys in YA fiction are tall, have abs, muscular arms, and are tall. But St. Clair, he's just a regular guy, which probably makes him THAT much more hot. We don't know if he has abs, we know he is short (but not too short), and we know, by what Anna has told us, that he has great hair. I think Perkins crafted the most handsome-est and hot-est of boys in YA literature, EVER! Wouldn't you agree?

Anna is such a funny person. Ahaha, this book was funny! Jeesh, it had me laughing at 1 in the morning. I'm surprised no one woke up. Anna Olphant. Weird, eh? Or, Banana Elephant is her nickname. She has a bleached chunk of hair that coins her the nickname "skunk" by some very mean characters. Stupid bullies. But you know what is so great about Anna. She's human! Everything she says, does, acts, feels, is SO human. She doesn't let people get to her. If you're a complete asshole, she'll kickass your ass to another Universe. But, despite St. Clair kind of being an ass, she still loves him. I just really love how human she is. You can really relate to her. This, my friends, is probably another reason why so many love this book. St. Clair being the first, of course.

The overall plot was great. Some things I wasn't expecting, too. For example, you'd finish a chapter on a cliff hanger, so what do you do? Turn the page! This is what all great books should make you do. Keep turning those pages until your teacher is yelling at you for attention. So after turning that page you'd begin the next chapter. TaDa! Perkins, you are successful in keeping your audiences' attention. This is a page turning book. Nay I say more? Every scene, happening, or whatever, in this book was perfect. No complaints. Zelch. Zip. Zero.

So overall, what would I give Anna and the French Kiss?

Question of the Week: If you had to spend eternity inside the pages of a book which book would you choose and why?

Answer: Hmm, this is a toughy. But, because this book is my ALL TIME favorite, and because I would totally steal Jesse from the girl, I would have to go with The Mediator series. Either book (out of the six). Why? Because I love Jesse! He's a ghost, but a hot, historical ghost. Mmm, just my kind.

For a more contemporary novel I'd go with St. Claire in Anna and the French Kiss. I guess it isn't fair that I just finished this book this morning, so my answer isn't entirely valid, but seriously, I LOVE him! To vague of an answer? He has an ENGLISH accent for starters AND he lives in Paris AND speaks french. DO I need to continue...?

Hello my little piggies! Am I crazy or what? I actually went to Chapters today, in this maddness! I've never seen a line so big in Chapters before. Jeesh, I've never seen Chapters so crowded, period!

I did end up picking two books up, despite there being a bunch under the Christmas tree ^.^

Here's what I got (and might I had, I was pretty witty with my selections):

You think this cover is scary? If you've ever seen the paperback version of this, opened the covers flap, you will have nightmares my friend. Seriously, I still can't believe I bought this book. It's about ZOMBIES! Zombies are like my worst fear. So make that two reason's why I am crazy. This is NOT the type of book I'd read. Not in a million years. BUT this is what I encourage you to do my friends. Make an effort to read at least ONE book once every few months to read something you'd never atually pick up to read. Who know's, you might actually like it. I think everyone should broaden their reading horizon's. It's good for the mind, and it's good to spice your book life up, just a bit.

I've been a member of inkpop for quite a while and look forward to their blog posts everyday. I could hardly contain my excitment when I saw this on the shelf, nestled between two books I can't remember the titles of. I'm surprised I even saw this. I'm so excited to read this. It sounds so good!

Review: The Hidden

Generally when someone is reading a series, like a trilogy or just a really long series, the first one is always chosen as the favorite out of the corresponding books. Except, for me, this is the COMPLETE opposite. Why? I don't know why, truthfully. Wait, scratch that, I do know why. When an author writes an epic, amazing, perfect conclusion, I will chose that book as the best. I love conlutions. Conclusions are great. I love conclusion that make me feel completed. You know when you're reading, and reading, and reading, and you suddenly turn the last page of the series and your like, "WTF? What kind of ending is that?" Yeah, those endings flipping suck! So yeah, can you see why I generally enjoy concluding books best? I love that feeling of happiness and completeness. Don't get me wrong, diving into a brand new series is always a head-rush feeling that I love. Just, I get happier when I conclude a book. I've finished it, accomplished it, and now its time to move on.

Any who (even though we're not who's in whoville... hehehe, get it?.. the Grinch... get it?.. never mind), onto the review. You can probably guess that this was my favorite out of all three. Again with this one we are stuck inside Abbey's little head, living her days out as if we are actually there. It's great and all, but it gets kind of dull, Jessica. If you decide to write a new book, think about this. Like the other two, nothing MAJOR happens until the last 100 pages. GAH, the last hundred pages! Wow, just wow. That ending was flipping amazing!

Characters: Abbey isn't the needy type. I mean, she doesn't want Caspian to leave her and gets upset when he goes for a walk, but that's understandable. She loves him. I get sad when my boyfriend does that. For me, Abbey is a very likable character. She knows what she wants in life, thinks for her self. I really admired her for that. Caspian, well he's a ghost, so how can you possibly relate to a ghost when your not one yourself. In the first book, truthfully, I didn't like him. I did end up loving him in this one. He's so protective and sweet, and he just makes me cry. I don't know why, but he's such a tortured soul to me. Overall I'd say the characters are likable... except Abbey's mom. I don't like her. She's weird and makes me want to slap her.

Plot: Again, a little slow in the beginning but does pick up. The ending was amazing! I of course can not tell you why it is, but trust me, it is. You can tell the author really thought the plot through. Everything was tied in at the end. Things made sense and you felt COMPLETED! Thank you Jessica! Honestly, I ended up crying after this. I have the most sensitive nerves, just ask my boyfriend. I can't believe I cried. I just really loved this series, and what Abbey did in the end... GAH, she's amazing.

Setting: I must say, after reading The Hollow, I actually want to read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. It sounds interesting. The setting sounds so cute. Sleepy Hollow sounds like a really nice and quiet town I would most likely enjoy.

Writing: The writing is quite good, considering Jessica writes the entire story by hand and than transfers it to computer. I do this to and it shows how much work a writer puts into her writing when he/she does this. Jessica's writing is unique and beautiful. Vivid descriptions and imagery really had me creating a film in my mind.

Overall, I give this deserving 5 curly pig tails

Taunting Tuesday's (#3)

Today is Tuesday, and for you comes a taunting Tuesday. So what is currently taunting me? Nope, not a book that is to be released next year, but a book to be released NEXT week! Yes, you heard me correctly... err, read what I wrote correctly. I know it is only a week away, but I still can't help but feel taunted. So enough of this babbling, here is what I cannot wait for:

Jessica Rules the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey. I absolutely adored the first book, Jessica's guide to dating on the dark side, and was extremely excited when I learned that Beth wrote a corresponding book. I never had the chance of reading The Wedding on Beth's website, but will when it is back up. I am so excited to continue this story. Yes, it is a vampire story, but it's a good vampire story. Nope, no sparkly vampires.

The synopsis:

"It’s one thing to find out you’re a vampire princess. It’s a whole other thing to actually rule. Newly married Jessica Packwood is having a hard enough time feeling regal with her husband, Lucius, at her side. But when evidence in the murder of a powerful elder points to Lucius, sending him into solitary confinement, Jessica is suddenly on her own. Determined to clear her husband’s name, Jessica launches into a full-scale investigation, but hallucinations and nightmares of betrayal keep getting in her way. Jessica knows that with no blood to drink, Lucius’s time is running out. Can she figure out who the real killer is—and whom she can trust—before it’s too late? "

Gah! I am so excited for this. I should probably mention the release date: December 21st 2011. Although, on goodreads it says in 2012, but on Chapters Indigo, it says December of this year. We will have to see.

Review: Clockwork Prince + Excuses, excuses, and more excuses

So, if you haven't noticed, I have been absent. For how long? Six? Maybe seven days? This was not intentional. I have been overwhelmed with a variety of things. From volunteering, to actually abandoning my school work, and making my boyfriend feel neglected, I took a break so I can help animals, hand in assignments, and mend my relationship to a healthy one. Spare me the caped sentences and disapproving looks. It took me seven days to finish Clockwork Prince... SEVEN FLIPPING DAYS! Why? Because of the variety of things I had to do. But I am now back, ready to roll and rumble.. huh? Anyways, I also got my first book in the mail that an author sent me! How exciting!

On to a more interesting subject...

Lets first begin this review by talking about the cover. In Clockwork Angel I was drawn to the handsome model on the cover. I am sorry to say I do not like this cover. It feels awkward to me. I don't get it.

Okay... okay... okay... OKAY! I can't live without knowing what is to happen. Seriously Cassandra? Spare us the woe of waiting and at least not leave off with a cliffhanger! Ah, you cruel women. Alas, it is a very genius way to end a book. It leaves your reader's no choice BUT to buy/borrow the next book a year from now. Clever, clever, Miss Clare!

Shall we move on to a more important discussion?

This book will not disappoint. I'm not some fan-five-rating-of-every-book-girl, that does not take a book apart and critique it down to its very core. No, no, no, no. That is certainly not me.
This book deserves the honorable five stares because it is clear as sparkly water (cause just saying water is too vague). Cassandra is clearly a great writer. Recently I watched someone review "Shatter me" and they made an excellent point. When reading a story, the words should be invisible to you. You shouldn't be able to see them. If a writer is good at what they do, you don't see words but the world, emotions, sights, actions, and characters. You see them as clear as that non-vague water. The words should produce a film inside your mind. That is exactly what happened while reading Clockwork Prince. I was so engrossed in this book, saw images of Will, Jem, Tessa and those ugly demons, flash before my eyes. It was incredible. Truly, applause to you Cassandra. I hope to one day be as great of a writer as you. Inspirational, truly, inspirational.

My only complaint, because, yes, I have one, is the beginning was kind of slow. Day after day they try to find Mortmain and it became utterly dull. It picked up and definitely made up for it. The plot was well thought out and perfect. I couldn't ask for better characters, happenings, scenario's, surprises, and disappoints. Oh, Will. You always have me.

I, again will say, absolutely love the writing in this. I love history, anything 1800's, and the writing and details captured this era perfectly. The way characters spoke and acted was perfected. You can tell Cassandra really did her research, and it shows!

I say this all the time when books are amazing, but it's so true, I am utterly speechless. Especially after that ending. WOW, so wasn't expecting that.

Again, I rated this five stars because it deserves five stars. So Tessa was annoying at points, I got over it. So she loves both Will and Jem, I got over it and accepted it. I think people rated this a three because of how REAL the characters were. Hello, Tessa is a real character. She's confused, helpless, and smart. She isn't dumb. How would you like to be torn between two people you loved? Ah, you'd certainly do what was best in your heart.

I just really had to speak on behalf of Tessa. She needed somebody to voice for her.

Guess what came out today? Clockwork Prince! Yup, it really, really did. But of course I drove straight over to chapters this morning and picked it up. So technically the books I purchased this morning weren't from my mailbox, but that's okay, we can pretend. So here is what I got:

Yup, right now, resting on the arm chair of my couch, is a hard copy of Clockwork Prince! It's tempting me right now, telling me to "READ IT!" But alas, I cannot. I have a paper due at the end of the week and I promised my mom (especially since she let me stay home from school) that I'd get most of it done. Crikey! But I will start it today. You hear! I can't wait to add it to my shelf, though. It's going to look so good next to my hard copy of Clockwork Angel.

Lastly I got The Hidden by Jessica Verday. Gah, I've been wanting to read this since I finished The Haunted over the weekend. I'm almost tempted to read this before Clockwork Prince, but I will not. Of course not! How idiotic of me to even think such a thing.  But I am going to read this. I must find out what is to happen to poor Caspian and Abbey.

Review: Suite Dreams

Abso-bloody-lutely amazing! This was a very cute little story about Alyssa, or "Lys" and a hot Aussie named Jude.

Crikey! I don't know what to say. This was too cute for words, literally. These little books are so fun to read! Remember, don't take them seriously, they're meant to be ridiculous and funny and corny. Ah, remember all that corn I talked about in the other 'cutsie' books like this? Well, this is no exception. Indeed, this was CORNY! Don't you just love corn?

This is going to be an incredibly short review because, in all honesty, I seriously don't know what to write about for this book- besides the fact it's corny. The main character, Alyssa, is your average University gal, spending the Holiday's doing HOMEWORK! Yikes, that's rather odd. But then Jude, that hot Aussie I mentioned up top, yeah, he comes along because he's couch surfing. And you know what? It exists! Okay, okay, I'm getting a little off topic. Really, this book was cute. If you liked any other Hawthorne or books like this, you'll probably like this one too. These books are something you read for fun, in one sitting.

So yeah, not a great review, but nevertheless you learned something new, eh?

Review: The Haunted

Caspian is the most amazing, romantic, heartbreaking, handsome, hot, and funny fictional character I know. I love him!

Here's a picture of funyuns if you don't know what they are. I sure didn't until I googled them. Ah, you gotta love google.

I loved this book! I fell in love with Caspian in this one. Like I said in my review for The Hollow, Caspian didn't steal my heart like fictional hotties tend to. He swooned me you guys, absolutely "twisted" my arm into falling for him.

Well, my affection for fictional beings is besides the point for this review, so I am just going to move on...

The Haunted starts where The Hollow left off, Abbey living with her aunt for a few months. After living with her aunt, and after many sessions with her therapist, Abbey comes back to Sleepy Hollow sooner than when she hoped to have returned. Upon returning, Abbey runs into Caspian, but of course. After wanting, and trying desperately to forget him, she can't help but fall for him. Yes, their in love and it is so cute. Mind you, cute things never last long. Caspian and Abbey learn how difficult and life-threatening their relationship can be. Well, we learn of some secretes, we're introduced to new characters, we learn of a specific type of people, we learn more about Caspian and his relationship with Abbey, and we learn that upon completing this one, you need to desperately continue on. Unfortunately I cannot hit the book store right now (curse you homework), but I am gladly picking up the next and final instalment while picking up Clockwork Prince. Tuesday, hurry up and be here will you!

The first book was slow with a fast paced and thrilling ending. This book is no exception. To be vaguely honest, this book is exactly like the first. Slow throughout the book, and than the last hundred pages were exhilarating. I felt like I was on a roller coaster. My questions were being answered, there were new discoveries, and Caspian and Abbey got pretty steamy. Gah, I never knew 100 pages could fly by so fast. Though, just because it was slow does not mean it wasn't enjoyable. A slow ride is fun. It's fun being inside of Abbey's head, almost following her around. It's nice when you want to just relax and enjoy the book. A book with so much going on can be breath taking. That's good sometimes, but other times you want to actual be able to breath!

Some people say the plot wasn't well developed. I don't agree with you people. I feel like the author leaves some gaps in her plot so she can tie in everything for her last book. A little mystery never killed anyone... And no, the cat died from curiosity, not mystery :)

Wow, I just realized how unprofessional this review sounds. That's okay, cause my reviews aren't meant to be professional. Gotta have a little corky reviews sometimes, right? I do hope you still enjoy this review, despite my corkyness.
